Fashion Vendors Will Be There Too!

1) A Chic Store
A Hidden Treasure
by Cindy Chow Shen Yi

At one glance, one may have the perception that it is just a small boutique. However, this is no ordinary boutique. Owned by online blogshop A Chic Store owner Caressa Cheng, the shop has been decorated to cater to the comfort and also a range of working to casual attires for women of all ages.

This 28 year old beauty certainly has great passion for the fashion industry. She quit her day job as a manager in a prestigious company to manage her online blogshop and clothes shop at Jaya One. She travels around to countries such as Korea to handpick clothes and bring them back, each design is only one piece and no repetitions.

(Picture Source: A Chic Store )

I personally went to her shop and saw the effort that she has put into. Her motto is not just to sell, but to provide a service of fashion consultancy for clients who need help in dressing up. According to her, there are some women who have spent most of their time in formal wear and with cordial colors, therefore when being presented with a T-shirt, they lose the creativity to pair it up with formal wear such as working pants with a funky yet formal blazer. She insists on maintaining a friendly and approachable relationship with buyers, and has a few frequent shoppers who are very satisfied with her help.

Caressa assures that most of her clothes are not exceeding RM190 in price, and it is important to have affordable clothes ready due to the economic downturn. However, business is still good and not much has been affected. Perhaps beauty is very important for every girl.

So for those of you who are yearning to get new clothes and at the same time get free dressing tips, head on to Jaya One and have a relaxing time trying on these funky and elegant clothes that can be worn to the office, or just a date with our boyfriends!

For the past nine years, Adly has been making it his business to document, champion and unearth new Malaysian talent through his work as a music critic for TONE Magazine and The Malay Mail, as a jury for Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM), and now as the programme manager for radio station XFM. Raising the standards of Malaysian music, be it industry standards or the quality of the music itself, is high on his list of priorities. Adly is now working on repositioning XFM as the hotbed for fresh Malaysian music, with a strong emphasis on music made by independent artistes.

AZMYL YUNOR

One of the hardest gigging Malaysian independent musicians for the past decade, Azmyl Yunor has dabbled in different genres ranging from folk to experimental noise rock. A former street musician, he is known for his strong songwriting and energetic live shows. He runs his own label Rapidear Records, which also released his 2005 breakthrough Tenets EP. He has performed at festivals and venues in countries around the region and internationally such as Australia and Japan. He is a co-founder of the Experimental Musicians and Artists Co-operative Malaysia and a co-artistic director of Troubadours Enterprise, organisers of the annual Malaysian singer-songwriter showcase KL Sing Song, now in its fifth year.

Local artiste, actor, and key player for the Malaysian Artist for Unity project, Pete Teo once said:

"How about getting together to make an anti-racism national unity song and music video?"

Like him, we believe music brings people together.

The ancient Greek philosopher, Plato also said:

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything."

Like him, we believe music makes the world go round.

“It’s not me. It’s the songs. I’m just the postman. I deliver the songs. He’s singing all his own songs. That ain’t no folk singer. Folk singers sing those old folk songs, ballads.”

SOC Media Carnival 2009's Mission & Objectives

General Description

An electrifyingly vibrant yet informative themed-carnival is currently in the works, organised entirely and exclusively by SOC students and lecturers. This festival is marked as a landmark event that is bound to be the envy of other departments and also colleges alike.

The running theme this time is around "Communication through Media Arts", with the tagline of "Media in Action". As the theme suggests, there will be a variety of music performances, alongside variety of crucial media contents, guaranteed to be genre-binding and groundbreaking, that will be presented to the fortunate audience on that day.

Mission & Objectives

• To educate the general public about music in terms of definitions, contents and correlation of music as a tool of communication, beyond entertainment purposes.

• To set the milestone for a first-of-its-kind huge scale media and music carnival in Malaysia organised by communication students.

• To create a bridge between SOC students and key players in media and communication; to establish a sense of belonging in the industry. This will be theirs in a couple of years. This bridging is crucial to realize the creative talents SOC have as well as for the students to tap into the movers and shakers of the industry.

• To further delve into the threshold of music as a new means of communication that could prosper alongside traditional forms of communication working towards a common goal.

• Aims to provide a comprehensive exposure for students to apply media theory and skills learnt as well to encourage collaboration and participation between students and lecturers from different departments, schools and even colleges, to a certain extent.

• To improve brand recognition for Taylor’s University College, in particular for School of Communication.

MosiacMedia 2009

MosiacMedia (Conceptual logo art by Ammar Hakim Khairi. Art design by Raffi Affendy Th'ng)

Founded in July 2009, MosiacMedia is a form of vehicle which reaches to all walks of life to educate in various elements of education by containing and instilling both music and media.

MosiacMedia is an eclectic collective of outstanding individuals who, as a single unit, could easily produce extraordinary results with their capabilities. Consisted of students from School of Communication (SOC), Taylor’s College Petaling Jaya, the initial “MosiacMedia” represents “Music overwhelms Science, Interprets Arts and Communication”.

In matter of fact, this team emerges as a formation that has the capabilities to infuse music and media industry on the same platform. Bipolar energy from both can be united as one. This team drives and strives for the best, as to stand fiercely on the ground against the stereotype mind of the people towards the media industry.

MosiacMedia has come to realisation from the mind and hearts of SOC volunteers who endeavor music, arts and communication, far beyond their passion in life.
